United Way of York County Seeks AmeriCorps*VISTA This One-Year Position Begins in August
United Way of York County has been selected to host a full-time AmeriCorps*VISTA to work with the emerging Shared Youth Vision Council for the District of York County (the Council). The Council will work to increase Maine's high school graduation rate to 90% and reduce the number of youth detained in the juvenile justice system. The AmeriCorps*VISTA will help staff, coordinate, and build capacity for the Council's strategic plans here in York County beginning in August.
This could be a great next step for a college graduate or someone with a few years of work experience who is interested in establishing a program. Candidates must be 18 years or older. More information about this opportunity can be found at the AmeriCorps*VISTA website. Interested candidates can also contact Barb Wentworth, United Way of York County Director of Community Impact. Deadline for submitting applications is June 30.
Record Turnout for United Way of York County's 15th Annual Day of Caring to Support Area Nonprofits 97 Projects Were Completed to Benefit 38 Organizations
More than 1,000 volunteers participated in United Way of York County's 15th Annual Day of Caring. Chaired by Lisa Randall of Kennebunk Savings, this event is a powerful partnership of volunteers, sponsors, and nonprofit organizations. Volunteer labor for this one day is valued at more than $135,000.
"I've been involved with this event for so many years, just trying to follow the old adage: it's better to give than to receive. This ONE day every year shows me the true compassion that exists among us right here in our own community," said Randall (pictured at left). "It is with awe and pride that I have watched this event have such a positive impact on the lives of York County residents each and every year."
Volunteers included students, business professionals, retirees, and civic groups who traded in their office equipment and school supplies to complete projects at nonprofit organizations.
